Bold as Love

To my friends and family, thank you so much for all of the lovely comments and words of encouragement.

I’ve decided to post my first before/after shot when I saw the comments I received on Facebook.  I’m so grateful for all the love and support that I’m glad to share this photo (and my weight) here.  I just wanted to be happy, fit, and healthy.  I’m finally on my way there.

July 5th - 12th, 2012

Achievements:
  • -2.6 lbs for a total of -21 lbs
  • My sixth week of Couch to 5K
  • Met the 2 of the 4 goals I set last week

Setbacks

  • I haven’t been as hardcore with my training this week
  • I couldn’t bring myself to do much more than my 5K training

Notes

I received the news that my cousin passed away on Sunday.  She was weeks away from her 29th birthday.  It’s been weighing heavily on me.  I haven’t stopped my 5K training, but I’ve been spending more time mourning her death and celebrating life than I have been exercising.  That won’t remain the case, as I know life continues on.  I’ll always love and miss her, but she’ll be in my heart - especially when I’m participating in The Color Run.

This Week’s Goals

  • -l lbs loss
  • Continue training
  • Take at least one class at the gym this week
  • Begin Sunday morning with sun salutation

Nothing is more powerful than a solid support system - a note of encouragement & congratulations from my parents regarding my recent fitness-related accomplishments.

Health Activist Writer’s Month Challenge - Day 19

5 Dinner Guests.  Who are 5 people you’d love to have dinner with (living or deceased) and why?

This one is easy - my mother and stepfather, my mother-in-law and her husband, and my husband’s Nana.  In short, my family.  Five is an unfair to give a Latina, so let’s add my brother-in-law and his wife, and my mother’s friends to that list.  My husband isn’t in the list because I’m assuming that they would be having dinner here.

I think a lot of the enjoyment of a meal is who you have it with.

Health Activist Writer’s Month Challenge - Day 14

My Dream Day.  Describe your ideal day. How would you spend your time? Who would you spend it with? Have you had this day? If not how could you make it happen?

This is another difficult prompt.  Like most people, I don’t have one ideal scenario.  But here’s one:

My ideal day would begin back in Jersey, with my family and I enjoying an early breakfast and some stretching.  We then gather our things and head into the city to participate in the Color Run.  We run - not walk - the entire course, and celebrate afterwards.  Tired, sweaty, plastered in pigments, we laugh and cry together.  At the end of the day, we return home and preserve our shirts and go over any goodies we received.

I haven’t had this day yet, but I’m hoping I will in late August.

Health Activist Writer’s Month Challenge - Day 6

Health haiku.  Write a haiku about your health focus. 5 syllables/7 syllables/5 syllables. Write as many as you like.

Bleh, I was never any good at writing a haiku.  At least they’re fun to write.

1.

This is my body

A temple for a new life

A home for my soul.

2.

Working on my health

Don’t want to live forever

Just want to be well

3.

Improving my life

Learning to eat, breathe, and move

A labor of love

March Madness

Saturday marks my first week of this journey.  I’m a bit nervous.  I’m hoping that I’ve lost a good deal of weight.  But that’s then, and this is now.

It’s March already!  I can’t believe it.  We’re nearly over the first quarter of the year.  As the season progresses, I can only be patient as the body I’ve abused for so long finally blossoms into its best shape.  I begin the Couch to 5K program next week, which I am both anticipating and dreading.  The goal: Color Run NY.  Momma’s beginning it as well, as she hopes to gather some of our family up to form a team.  I keep picturing myself running along side my parents and husband, all of us in the best shape of our lives.

I’ve got a personal “March Madness” workout schedule set up.  While I’ve already started it, I’m kicking it into high gear today.  Basically, it’s alternating days of Couch to 5K and any other exercise (biking, calisthenics, good workout tapes, long walks, weights, etc.), leaving Sunday for rest.  As long as I’m moving for at least thirty minutes a day six days of the week, I’ll be happy.
