April 18 - April 25, 2013

The Numbers
  • Current Weight: 224.6 lbs
  • Weight Loss This Week: -.8 lbs
  • Total Loss From Starting Weight: -32.6 lbs

The Setbacks

  • I was unable to keep from binging late at night.
  • I’m still trying to get my insomnia in check.  Yesterday, I managed to get a full night’s rest, but I still might see my doctor about this.  Again.  I’m so sick of going to doctors about this issue, because all they ever want to do is drug me up!
  • I’m bloated and moody.  My cycle is right around the corner.  I don’t mind menstruating, it’s the stupid nonsense before it arrives that gets on my nerves.
  • I’m so over Active Link.  I need better fitness monitor.

The High Notes

  • I attended three yoga classes last week, and went for a long walk 5 out of seven days.
  • Still working on getting my eating habits back on track, and while I did binge, it was mostly on fruits and veggies.
  • I’ve been doing my best to truly embrace the concept of letting go.

The Weekly Goals

  • -1 lbs loss
  • Continue the 30 Day Squat Challenge
  • Continue taking yoga.
  • Continue looking for a race or event to train for.
  • Continue to begin and end the day with a positive thought.
  • Finish cleaning out the fridge and pantry, continue to restock it with better choices
April 4 - April 11, 2013
The Numbers
  • Current Weight: 221.6 lbs
  • Weight Loss This Week: 0 lbs
  • Total Loss From Starting Weight: -35.6 lbs

The Setbacks

  • I got back on and fell back off again.  Hard.  No excuses here.  Just plain old fashioned fucking up and getting lazy.  After a good amount of beating myself up, I dragged my ass to last week’s weigh in.  I didn’t lose anything this week, but I didn’t gain anything either.
  • I have yet to learn to push myself without shoving myself to the floor then kicking myself when I’m down.  I think that’s the hardest part to learn.

The High Notes

I’ve been focusing on the things that will hopefully motivate me to continue.  One of them is photographed above - my old jeans (from when I was at my heaviest) vs. my current jeans.  It’s just a reminder of how far I’ve come and how far I can go if I just keep pushing myself.
My workout was 30 minutes long.  In that time, I did a 1/2 mile run in 10 minutes.  I was so disappointed, but I had to remind myself that it’s something.  Failure would have been nothing at all.

The Weekly Goals

  • -1 lbs loss
  • Begin taking classes again - especially yoga.
  • Restart 5K training.
  • Begin and end the day with a positive thought.

Recap & Results

Lowest Weight in 2012: 205.8 lbs

Weight on December 31, 2012: 226.4 lbs

Current Weight: 220.4 lbs (-6 lbs)

I have no excuses for gaining 20.6 lbs in a little over two months.  Insomnia has been an issue for me the majority of my life, and sometimes I’m too stubborn to get it treated.  The lack of sleep led to depression, and depression led to eating like a miserable beast all hours of the day. My distrust of doctors and hatred of pills obviously worked against me.

Finally, I gave in and started trying prescribed medications for sleep.  In the end, it was the flu and the help of my acupuncturist that got my sleep cycle back to normal.  If for some reason my sleep schedule is disrupted, I definitely won’t wait to take care of it.

The year is off to a good start.  I really want to make this the year I succeed.

I can’t believe how far I got in 2012.  I lost over fifty pounds and gained back nearly twenty, but I’m still wearing a size 16/18.  It was a good year for struggles.

2013 is a good year for success.  I’ve already began but, for me, it all officially starts tomorrow (for the first full week of the new year).  Back to keeping record of my successes and challenges, back to running and exercising, back to improving my health (and looks).  I can’t wait!

September - October 4, 2012

Achievements:
  • Total loss of 51.4 lbs

Setbacks

  • Life has been kicking my ass, but I haven’t let it get in the way of taking care of myself.

Notes

The thing about losing weight with consistent success is that when you realize how strong you are, you’re less willing to put up with bullshit.  I’ve lost over 50 lbs.  Now that I’m here, I feel like the only person I have to answer to is myself.

This Week’s Goals

  • -1.5 lbs loss
  • Begin running again
  • Return to more creative hobbies - knitting, drawing, etc.  Try to take a break from gaming
  • Look into classes again - especially yoga

I know I post a list of stats each week, but a picture is worth 1,000 words.  Because I’m a chatty little bitch, here’s two.

P.S. Forgive the dirty bathroom mirror pic.  I just weighed in and was feeling so damn proud I didn’t even bother to see if their mirror was clean!

August 10th - 6th, 2012

Achievements:
  • 5 lbs for a total of -35.2 lbs
  • Two weeks wearing my Invisalign braces
  • Met the 1 of the 4 goals I set last week

Setbacks

  • Found myself without sleep and too tired to begin Sunday with a sun salutation… again.  Looking to possibly postpone this goal once my sleep schedule is back to normal
  • Didn’t make it to any classes… again.  Once again, my sleep (or lack there of) has affected this
  • I’m almost sure my lack of sleep has affected my general well-being.

Notes

Not only did the week find me with a general sense of illness, but it found me with a miserable sleep schedule.  Thankfully, I was able to at least watch what I ate and do some exercise.  Not nearly as much as I wanted, but some is much better than none.  I don’t know that I’ll be posting updates while I’m back east, but we’ll see what I can manage.

This Week’s Goals

  • -1.5 lbs loss
  • Continue working on time/distance
  • Get ready for my trip to NYC

August 2nd - 9th, 2012

Achievements:
  • -1.4 lbs for a total of -30.2 lbs
  • Completed Couch to 5K training
  • One week wearing my Invisalign braces
  • Met the 2 of the 5 goals I set last week

Setbacks

  • Forgot to begin Sunday with a sun salutation… again
  • Didn’t make it to any classes… again
  • Didn’t meet my -2 lbs goal

Notes

I found myself getting lazy once my training stopped.  I have pushed myself to run, but it seems to be a certainty when I have a set schedule to train to.  Easy enough to fix.

This Week’s Goals

  • -2 lbs loss
  • Continue working on time/distance
  • Take two classes at the gym
  • Begin Sunday morning with sun salutation!!!
July 19th - 26th, 2012

Achievements:
  • 2.6 lbs for a total of -24.2 lbs
  • My eighth week of Couch to 5K
  • I’m now running for 30 minutes straight, deciding that the 28 minutes I’m supposed to run is a silly middle step
  • Met the 3 of the 4 goals I set last week

Setbacks

  • Forgot to begin Sunday with a sun salutation because I slept in.  Shame on me, I know.

Notes

I’m still pretty hungry after runs, but I’m obviously doing a better job of balancing everything since I dropped a nice bit of weight.  I decided after weeks of hard work, it was time to treat myself.  So I got a pedicure and a haircut.  I felt a great deal better about myself after that little bit of maintenance.
Hot yoga was amazing, and I’m looking forward to making it a regular thing.

This Week’s Goals

  • -l lbs loss
  • Continue training
  • Take at least one Bikram Yoga class
  • Take an additional class at the gym
  • Begin Sunday morning with sun salutation
  • Make a list of small rewards

July 12th - 19th, 2012

Achievements:

  • -.5 lbs for a total of -21.5 lbs
  • My seventh week of Couch to 5K
  • I’m now running for 25 minutes straight
  • Met the 2 of the 4 goals I set last week

Setbacks

  • I’m still schlepping through my training.  I have no good excuse for it either.
  • Now that I’m running straight without intervals, I find myself hungrier a lot of the time

Notes

My cousin’s passing has left me in something of a depression.  As long as I’m still training, I feel that things will be alright.  There is improvement, and I’ve returned to meditating daily which has helped a great deal.  I’m hoping to add yoga to that routine as it used to be one of my favorite ways to center myself.

Running without the interval training has also been making me hungry.  I’ve been trying to find the right balance of foods to keep me energized and full while allowing for continued weight loss.  That’s been a bit exhausting, but hey, I lost weight this week so I must be on the right track.

My little gem jar is now divided into three sections:

  1. What I have left until I meet my half-way point
  2. The remainder of the second half
  3. The final ten lbs.

Each section is divided by a little note letting me know where I’m at.  I’m looking forward to seeing that first card.  There will be photos, believe that.

This Week’s Goals

  • -l lbs loss
  • Continue training
  • Take at least one class at the gym this week - MUST GET THIS DONE ALREADY.  I really have to cast my fear aside and grow the fuck up
  • Begin Sunday morning with sun salutation (I rather enjoyed doing this last Sunday, so I think I’m going to try it again)
